About Us

Established in 1964 alongside the college’s founding, the Department of English at Alphonsa College has grown to offer both undergraduate and postgraduate programs. The BA in Language and Literature was introduced in 1967, followed by the aided MA in English program in 2014. Over the years, 22 eminent faculty members have retired from service, leaving a lasting legacy. Today, the department boasts a team of 9 dedicated educators committed to guiding students through their journey of personal and professional development

Embodying the Christian mission of going the extra mile for others, our department nurtures young, enthusiastic learners. We strive to help students develop the right attitude, enhance their language skills, and gain literary knowledge to meet both their career goals and societal expectations.

Our key initiatives include:

  1. A socially relevant and industry-aligned curriculum
  2. Technology-enabled teaching and learning methods
  3. A comprehensive assessment system
  4. Career enhancement programs, including NET/SET preparation classes

With a renewed interest in Arts and English Literature, we envision a promising future for our students as they embark on their academic and professional paths
