The PG Department of English at Alphonsa College, Pala, successfully hosted the prestigious 3rd Rev. Dr. Jose Joseph Pulavelil Memorial Lecture at the College Auditorium. The keynote speaker for the event was renowned Member of Parliament, poet, and journalist, Kanimozhi Karunanidhi.
Speaking on the theme “Literature, Language, and Democracy: The Power of the Word,” Kanimozhi MP emphasized that India’s true soul lies in its rich diversity. She noted that true unity is achieved when people are respected and brought together regardless of caste, creed, gender, or religious differences.
During her address, she expressed growing concern over rising sectarian tendencies, pointing out that those who lack commitment to democratic values often attempt to silence or imprison free thinkers, writers, and social activists. She highlighted that literature and poetry have historically held the power to question systemic rigidity and awaken societal consciousness.
